Community Fire Planning

A committee was formed to create a "Community Fire Plan" with the objectives of improving safety, reducing the potential for and consequences of wildfire and enhancing fire protection. With the help of a dedicated group of homeowners, we have drafted Interlaken Estates' plan. Through a program sponsored by the Utah Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands, we apply for matching fund grants to help us pay for needed enhancements. We are looking to reduce wildfire fuels, improve our water system, and add backup generators and other pertinent safety enhancements for Interlaken. A critical part of the matching funds process is for the committee as well as individual property owners to track the time and money they spend improving Interlaken Estates' fire prevention and firefighting capability. We have developed a printable form and an online form to track the time and money spent engaging in related activities, such as clearing "defensible space" surrounding your home or changing to a metal roof. Please begin to use either form NOW for any such work that you do so the community can benefit from the matching funds. Also, we recommend that you take a picture of your home and the fuels surrounding your home now. Later we can take a picture after dead scrub oak and other fuels have been reduced to show the amount of work for the grant.

If you have special expertise to contribute or wish to join the committee, please contact Sue Onan (435-654-3386), board@interlakenestates.com). Otherwise, stay tuned for more communication from this committee.
